Embroidered Portrait Bags
3rd Grade
Objectives:
Students will use knowledge of fibers, embroidery, and printing to create a bag.
TEKS:
- Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment.
- Creative Expression. The student expresses ideas through original artworks, using a variety of media with appropriate skills.
- Historical/Cultural heritage. The student demonstrates an understanding of art history and culture as records of human achievement.
- Response/Evaluation. The student makes informed judgements about personal artworks and the artworks of others.
Materials:
2 - 8 x 11 in. piece of Burlap

Stamps of various shapes

To finish bags:
- Get another piece of Burlap that's the same size
- lay the two pieces on top of each other, with the design on the inside
- sew a straight line around the two sides and bottom edges of the pieces, in a U-shape
- turn inside out
- Get a long piece of Burlap
- sew one end of the burlap to each side of the bad on the inside
