I am Elizabeth Malmberg, and I was born and raised in Denton, Tx. As a child I grew up surrounded by art. My grandmother's colorful paintings and subtle prints hung from the walls, my mother's vivid quilts laid across every bed and sofa, and my father's quiet photographs and naturalistic sculptures adorn the walls and shelves of our home.
Growing up I always wanted to create things. It didn't matter if it was photography, painting, sculpture, or drawing. I was constantly making art and striving to create art that was not only beautiful but also functional and that was meaningful. |
My Artwork: |
As I started school, I loved my art class. It was my favorite specials class. It was where I was able to learn new ways of creating and how the skills of creating can be important outside of art. I was able to use art to connect with the other things I learned in school, like math and history. I also was invited to join an Art Club where 4th and 5th graders could expand on what they were learning in the classroom to increase their skills as well as their knowledge and love of art.

After Elementary School, I didn't have as many opportunities in school to experience art. However, that didn't halt my passion for art outside of school. My father and I began going to art museums together, exposing my to the world of contemporary art and to some of it's concepts that seemed foreign to me, like abstraction or non-representation. I began to learn about new ways of art-making and how the world I live in can influence how art is made and what it is made about. I also saw how art can make an impact on the world it's made in through examples like the art of Ai Weiwei and Cindy Sherman.
By the time I was in college, I had become passionate about photography as my particular method of art-making. I also had opportunities to share my love of art with others and teach them about the impact it truly has and how to improve their artistic skills. As a college student, I attended UNT and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts Studies. So that I may be able to spend my life doing the two things I love: creating art, and sharing my love of creating with others. |
