Embroidered Felt Pillows
4th & 5th Grade
Objectives:
Students will be able to demonstrate basic sewing and embroidery skills to make a felt pillow.
TEKS:
- Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment.
- Creative Expression. The student expresses ideas through original artworks, using a variety of media with appropriate skills.
- Historical/Cultural heritage. The student demonstrates an understanding of art history and culture as records of human achievement.
- Response/Evaluation. The student makes informed judgements about personal artworks and the artworks of others.
Materials:
8 x 10 in Manila paper

Small pieces of felt in various sizes and colors
|
Felt Pillows:
- Use thread and needles to add details and embellishments to felt
- use buttons and beads if desired
- you can also use smaller pieces of felt to applique onto large piece
- when complete, put both large pieces of felt together with the decorated sides inside
- sew a straight seam around the entire shape, keeping a 1 in. hole unsewn
- turn inside out using hole
- fill with batting
- sew a small seam to close hole
- if desired, glue on googly eyes at this time
